The health and wealth of the Japanese labor forceare primary sources of internationalcompetitiveness for the manufacturing andservices sectors, and one of the key reasons thatmany foreign companies choose to invest in Japan.In the face of an aging workforce and a globalhealth pandemic, the sustainability of health andretirement is becoming an increasingly importantissue for businesses and their employees. It is ourbelief that ensuring the long-term sustainability ofthe social security system will support economicgrowth, relieve fiscal pressures, and meaningfuladd to a higher quality of life for Japanese citizens.Doing so will require the ingenuity of the privatesector and the cooperation of numerousstakeholders. It is on this premise that the American Chamber ofCommerce in Japan (ACCJ) has worked with theInstitute for New Era Strategy (INES) to bringtogether key leaders in business, government, andacademia to discuss the future shape of socialsecurity in Japan.
